Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) is an 850 student, public, fully accredited college located in the small coastal village of Castine, Maine.  The college is one of six state supported maritime colleges in the United States.  MMA is a college of engineering, transportation, management, ocean sciences and international business. MMA is a NCAA Division III institution that competes in the North Atlantic Conference, and New England Football Conference member.   MMA currently seeks to fill the following positions:

Full-time Positions

MARINE OPERATIONS MANAGER

Full-time staff supervisory position starting immediately.  Responsibilities include direct supervision of the MMA waterfront, to include its vessels and equipment, and its personnel to support the academic, athletic, and recreational programs at the Academy.  Candidates must have significant work experience on a waterfront and hold a minimum of a 100 Ton U.S. Coast Guard license.  Pre-employment drug screening and participation in the Academy’s random drug testing program required.  Pay Range 28 starting at $62,202.08 per year.

ASSISTANT THIRD ENGINEER

The successful candidate will possess an Assistant 3rd Engineer’s License or better, STCW 95 Certification, TWIC, and Merchant Mariner’s Certification.  Experience and/or education in the fields of rigging, welding, joinery, electrical, electronics, process controls and/or other engineering disciplines required.  The position serves as a crew member of the Training Ship State of Maine reporting to the Chief Engineer, and goes on the annual training cruise as well as any other ship deployments.  Position is subject to Random Drug Testing program and pre-employment drug screening.  Full-time benefits eligible position. Pay Range 23, Salary: $50,257.78 per year.

Director of Public Affairs

The Director of Public Affairs is responsible for oversight of the strategic direction of Academy relations.  The Director advises Academy leadership on matters of institutional relations and develops and implements plans for increasing MMA’s visibility to prospective students, alumni, friends and the media.  The Director administers and oversees public relations and institutional marketing and communications plans, serves as the first point of contact for all news reporters working on stories involving MMA, and directs, manages and implements institutional crisis communications.  The Director serves as an advisor to the President and as a member of the Academy’s Executive Committee.  The Director will have a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, marketing or related field or the equivalent skills and experience to excel in the job, demonstrable supervisory skills, excellent written and oral communications, ability to process confidential information and exhibit good judgment, proficiency in editing, layout and design, and social media tools.  Must possess exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to organize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate well to Trustees, the College President and officers, faculty, staff, students, donors, prospects and volunteers.   Full-time, exempt position. 

COACH I - Assistant Football Coach / Director of Campus Recreation

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or related field with five years of college football experience either as a player or as a coach is required. In addition to being an assistant football coach, the individual will implement, manage and direct the Academy’s campus recreational programming including all intramural activities. Full-time position, Pay Range 20 starting at $44,028.26.

ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR  - ENGINEERING

Full-time permanent and/or temporary position starting Fall, 2011 or Spring, 2012.  Includes classes in Marine Systems Engineering (EAC of ABET accredited) and Marine Engineering Technology (TAC of ABET accredited) and other engineering programs.  The position will directly support the teaching of undergraduate engineering design, engineering science and engineering technology courses.  The minimum credentials for this position are an earned master’s degree in a relevant field of engineering and at least three years of industrial experience. Preference will be given to those candidates with certification as a Professional Engineer, or an earned doctorate degree, and/or college level teaching experience.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – ENGINEERING

Full-time permanent and/or temporary position starting Fall, 2011.  Bachelor’s of Science in Marine Engineering or related field and applicable U.S.C.G. license required.  Master’s degree with a current valid Chief Engineer’s License, teaching and industrial experience is preferred.     

Director Center for Applied Research and Education

(SEARCH REOPENED)

The selected candidate will report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and be primarily responsible for major research policy development including defining standards, establishing and writing policies, and designing processes to measure research based outcomes.  He/she will manage the research center’s daily operations and ensure that the program’s sponsored research has, as a primary goal, the education of undergraduate students.  The Director will work with faculty to assist in the development of proposals and be responsible for the governance, oversight and management of the Center.  He/she will help establish an Advisory Committee to guide the Center and develop strategies to assure that the Center becomes self-sustaining.

A master’s degree from an accredited institution (Ph.D. preferred) and demonstrated research credentials preferably including undergraduate students in fields related to the mission of the Academy are required.  The selected candidate should have significant experience working with governmental agency and foundation sponsored research including the development of proposals and constructing/administering budgets. 

This is a policy setting exempt management position and starting salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Part-time/Temporary

AB – T/S STATE OF MAINE (TEMPORARY)

Temporary pro-rated spring semester position, pay range 19 $20.26 per hour starting immediately.  Must possess a Licensed Able Bodied Seaman, and TWIC card. Subject to pre-employment random drug testing and participation in MMA’s random drug testing program.

ASSISTANT THIRD ENGINEER

Temporary position starting immediately for less than 20 hours per week.  Pay Range 23 starting at $24.17 per hour.  Must possess a USCG license, TWIC card, STCW certification.  Subject to pre-employment random drug testing and participation in MMA’s random drug testing program.

Ship’s Plumber

Temporary 16 per hour/week (3-4 week) staff support position starting immediately.  Candidates should possess shipboard engineering experience, TWIC card.  Pre-employment drug screening and participation in the Academy’s random drug testing program required.  Pay Range 23, 24.16 per hour.

T.S. STATE OF MAINE CRUISE 2012

All positions require Merchant Mariner’s Document and drug free certification/random drug testing, U.S. Passport, and TWIC card.  Watch Training Officer positions require USCG license, and STCW certification.  Cruise 2012 dates:  May 4 through July 2, 2012:

Temporary Adjunct Instructor – Marine Transportation

Temporary (estimated two weeks or more) full-time position to teach Marine Transportation courses.  USCG license, Master (500 ton ocean Master) with STCW, B.S. degree, BRM and ARPA certificates.

Adjunct Instructor – Academic Year 2012-2013

Modern Languages:  The Arts and Sciences Department invites applications for modern language instructors for the academic year 2012-2013.  Instructors of Spanish, French, German, or other modern languages are sought.  An M.A. in the discipline or related field is preferred; teaching experience is required.

ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – SPRING, 2012

Physics:  The Arts and Sciences Department invites applications for physics courses beginning January 11, 2012.  A Ph.D. in the discipline is preferred, and Master’s degree and evidence of effective teaching experience required.  Previous college teaching experience in the subject matter requested.

Adjunct Instructors – Engineering

Courses include:  Fluid Power lecture and lab, Thermo Fluids Labs and Thermo Fluids Lectures, and Thermodynamics II.

Marine Transportation and Engineering USCG License Programs

Adjunct Instructors and Staff Lab Instructor/Technical Support full-time, temporary and part-time to teach in the following areas: Nautical Science and Marine Engineering.  Candidates should possess appropriate USCG license and at least a Bachelor’s degree or significant industrial experience.  Pre-employment drug test, random drug testing program and TWIC card required.  Courses include Navigation, Seamanship, Ship Handling, GMDSS, Watch Keeping Labs/Lectures, Engineering Fundamentals, Power Equipment Lab, and Electrical Power Lab.

Adjunct Instructors – Engineering

Courses include Graphics, Thermo Fluids Labs and Thermo Fluids Lectures, and Technical Communications.

Adjunct Instructors – Arts & Sciences

Temporary, full-time Physics Lab Instructor/Technical Support (40 hours/week) Ph.D. with teaching experience preferred and Master’s degree required. 

Adjunct Instructors – International Business and Logistics

Business Law (Spring term), and International Business Law (Spring term).

Adjunct Faculty - Engineering

The successful candidate will teach Engineering level courses labs and/or other labs at the discretion of the Department Chair.  The minimum credentials for this position are a BS Degree in Engineering, Masters preferred.  Candidates with prior college-level teaching experience are preferred.  This is a temporary position starting immediately.

ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – ENGINEERING

The successful candidate will teach Technology level Materials Science and Materials Science Labs.  Qualified candidates should possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s of Science in an Engineering discipline.  Master degree and prior teaching experience preferred. 

MATH AND PHYSICS TUTORS
Maine Maritime Academy seeks one or more individuals to provide private tutoring in math and/or physics at the college level to students with learning disabilities. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or higher and relevant teaching experience. Tutors will be expected to schedule tutoring appointments 7-9 PM, Mondays through Thursdays or at other mutually agreed upon times with students. Tutors will be limited to less than 20 hours per week and paid on an hourly basis at $25/hour.

Per Diem - Utility Worker, Temporary Office Worker (as needed)
Per Diem, temporary positions working in various departments.  The successful applicants must possess general office skills.  Utility Worker Pay Range 2,  $10.06 per hour, Temporary Office Worker, $10.50 per hour.
