Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) is an 800 student, public, fully accredited college located in the small coastal village of Castine, Maine.  The college is one of six state supported maritime colleges in the United States.  MMA is a college of engineering, transportation, management, ocean sciences and international business. MMA is a NCAA Division III and New England Football Conference member.

President

The Board invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of President.

 The President reports directly to the Maine Maritime Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will have a sincere appreciation for the college’s rich maritime heritage, history and traditions and be responsible for effective leadership, have impeccable integrity, strategic vision, and exemplary communication and interpersonal skills. He or she will have a demonstrated record in successful fund raising; significant leadership experience in an educational, maritime, business and/or governmental organization; outstanding fiscal skills; and, a commitment to the support and success of a nationally ranked public college. Individuals with significant management and leadership skills and an advanced degree from an accredited institution will be given preference.

Credentials:

-advanced degree preferred

-significant administrative experience with a college, maritime, business and/or governmental organization is required

-high level of credibility with academic stakeholders, either through a career developed within higher education, or the highest levels of achievement within another sector is preferred

PROGRAMMING COORDINATOR

The Programming Coordinator position reports to the Director of Residential Life and Student Services and is an 11-month, live-in, academic year appointment (July 1 through May 31). The successful candidate will be responsible for building and sustaining a holistic environment for students. Duties include: assisting with planning and coordinating general campus programming, co-curricular programming for target student populations, diversity awareness, and passive or active educational, social, and/or wellness topics as well as providing a professional staff presence in the Commons residential complex. This position also entails coordinating with other departments such as security; monitors residential facility cleanliness and maintenance needs; and provides liaison to other student services offices. Qualifications include: Bachelors degree with programming and/or housing experience required. Masters degree in Student Personnel or a related field is preferred. Pay Range 17 starting at $32,298.86.
 

Teaching Assistant/Technical Support – Level II
The Department of Engineering is seeking candidates who will support faculty in teaching lab courses and will be responsible for maintenance and operation of Engineering Department laboratory equipment. Lab equipment includes fluid systems, turbines, heat exchangers, materials testing equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisitions systems. Applicants should have a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Engineering Operations and/or appropriate and relevant professional experience and qualifications. Prior college-level teaching experience, a marine or stationary engineer’s license, and/or work experience in the marine or power industry preferred. Full-time, 9 ˝ month staff position beginning in the Fall, 2009 semester. Pay Range Level II - 20, 9 ˝ months $31,975.05.

Adjunct Faculty – Engineering
Adjunct instructors are needed for the Fall, 2009 academic term. The successful candidates will possess a strong maritime or power industry background with operational experience. A Bachelor of Science Degree is required for all positions and a USCG Unlimited Engineering License is preferred for the laboratory positions:

Adjunct Faculty – Marine Transportation

Adjunct and/or full time temporary instructors are needed beginning for the Fall, 2009 academic term. These positions may include Seamanship, Navigation, Cargo Operations, and Navigation Rules of the Road, Navigation Labs. Position requirements are a BS degree and an appropriate USCG license with industry experience and/or USCG 2nd Mate or higher or 500 T Master with teaching experience.


Utility Worker
The successful candidate will perform those duties as dormitory supervisor for CR 214 from May 4 through June 16, 2009. Weekend and evening hours are required.

Adjunct Professor – Marine Transportation

Temporary full-time position beginning August 15, 2009 through December 30, 2009.  Minimum qualifications 2nd Mate Unlimited U.S.C.G. license or 500 Ton Master U.S.C.G. license.  Pre-employment drug testing and participation in MMA’s random drug testing program required.  Teaching experience preferred.

 
MATH AND PHYSICS TUTORS
Maine Maritime Academy seeks one or more individuals to provide private tutoring in math and/or physics at the college level to students with learning disabilities. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or higher and relevant teaching experience. Tutors will be expected to schedule tutoring appointments 7-9 PM, Mondays through Thursdays or at other mutually agreed upon times with students. Tutors will be limited to less than 20 hours per week and paid on an hourly basis at $25/hour.

Per Diem - Utility Worker, Temporary Office Worker
Per Diem, temporary positions working in the Continuing Education Department, Dean's office and Presidents Office and Main Switchboard.  The successful applicants must possess general office skills.  Utility Worker Pay Range 2,  $8.93 per hour, Temporary Office Worker, $10.50 per hour.

SUMMER LIFEGUARD AT MMA SWIMMING POOL

The successful candidate must possess valid lifeguard certification and provide documentation of certification with application materials. This position is an on-call position that will pay a stipend for services as requested by summer groups. The successful candidates must be able to work flexible hours on weekdays and weekends.


CLIMBING WALL INSTRUCTOR

The successful candidate must be approved as a Climbing Wall Instructor by appropriate MMA personnel. This position is an on-call position that will pay a stipend for services as requested by summer groups who would like to have the climbing wall available for instructor and recreation. The successful candidates must be able to work flexible hours on weekdays and weekends.
